Pops and bangs is the crackle and burble on lift-off — ignition timing retarded so combustion finishes in the exhaust. It is pure theatre, it sounds superb on the right car, and it is petrol-only.
If you want something subtler, the Burble map (£179) gives a quieter overrun note and works on a standard exhaust — that is the one to pick if the car is also your commute or your neighbours are close.

The overrun strategy is calibrated for your exact car: how aggressive, how long the crackle window lasts, and at what throttle and temperature conditions it arms.
Written, road-checked so it actually pops the way you expect, and reversible free for twelve months if the novelty wears off or the car is being sold.
The straight talk
The part most tuning sites leave out. We would rather you decide with your eyes open.
This is the page where we are most honest, because most places just take the money: burning fuel in the exhaust creates temperature spikes that can melt the ceramic in a catalytic converter. A blocked cat can then take the turbo with it.
We will not fit an aggressive pops-and-bangs map to a car with a healthy cat you want to keep. Decatted or sports-cat cars are the right candidates; on a standard exhaust, take the Burble instead.
It also loads exhaust valves and the turbo, and unburnt fuel can wash bores over time. Great noise, real cost — decide with your eyes open, which is the only way we sell it.
Questions
Why petrol only?
The effect relies on petrol's combustion behaviour on overrun. Diesels do not crackle this way — anyone selling diesel pops and bangs is selling you a speaker or a lie.
Will it pass an MOT?
The map itself is not an MOT item, but a cat damaged by aggressive overrun heat is an emissions failure waiting to happen. This is exactly why we match the map's aggression to your exhaust hardware.
Can I have it removed later?
Yes — one request and the factory file goes back on, free within twelve months of our tune. Handy before selling the car to someone with quieter taste.
